has been producing casing soil mixes since 1987.
The success of our business has been built on meeting
our customers expectations in relation to product
quality, mix quality and freedom from disease.
Harte Peat, first established
in 1987 by Tommy and Kay O'Harte, is a privately
owned company which specializes in the supply
of premium mushroom casing soil to mushroom growers
and the mushroom industry throughout the world.
Providing quality product for our customers is
our first criteria, and our manufacturing facility
is designed for and exclusively used for the production
of mushroom casing.
Located in Southern Ireland,
Harte Peat owns and operates over 400 acres of
peat bog in the Irish countryside. We prepare
our bogs for the harvesting of peat and we are
in total control of the processes involved. The
harvesting machinery is operated by our own employees,
who work to precise practice in the operation
of our bogs. No outside peat is used in our process
and this gives the added advantage of a consistent
raw peat supply. The company operates its peat
extraction processes in line with best environmental
and industry practice, and has recently been awarded
the prestigious ISO
9002 registration for its Quality System.
In 1994, Harte Peat's success
was acknowledged on a national basis by winning
the RTE "Up and Running" Business of the
Year Award, as well as the Forbairt Company of
the Month in November 1995.
In 1997, as part of a major investment initiative,
Harte Peat installed a computer controlled blending,
mixing and bagging line.
In 2003 Harte Peat carried out extensive product
trials in Ireland of Professional Growing Media
specifically designed for the Professional Grower.
In another major investment the company built
a 22000sq ft screening mixing and production facility.
In 2004 Harte Peat launched the Harte Professional™
range of products. This range of Professional
Growing media is marketed throughout Ireland by
J.F.McKenna & Sons Ltd.
Harte Peat has always had difficulty finding
suitable peat harvesting and processing equipment.
This has led the company to build peat processing
equipment for its own use. In 2003/4 the company
began a program of Research and Development which
has resulted in a range of efficient, reliable
and cost effective peat processing machines being
designed and built by the company. In 2005 the
company began supplying this equipment to the
mushroom growing industry in Ireland.
Millway Trade and Invest holds the sole distribution
rights to Harte Peat mushroom casings for Sub
Sahara Africa.
